Good Wednesday Morning, May 28, 2008

Hello Everyone,

Today is Wednesday Morning, May 28, 2008.  It is a day #5.

A few notes…

1. Grades 1-3 will be taking the Terra Nova Tests this week through Thursday.  These are comprehensive tests to measure students’ progress in reading and in math.

2. The AVCS Middle School Band and Chorus will perform for us today at 1:00pm in the AFES gym.  This will be an exciting event for our students, as well as the middle school students who are performing.  It will also give our elementary chorus and band students some excitement and vision for what they can expect when they get to the middle school.

3. The National Spelling Bee, which started on Sunday and will run through Friday will be televised on ESPN. See the National Spelling Bee link for details.  http://www.spellingbee.com/

4. There will be Kindergarten registration on Wed. and Thursday of this week.   If you have a student that will be registering for Kindergarten for next fall, you should have an appointment already.  If you do not have an appointment, please contact the office at 647-5503 ext. 1

5. The 5th grade will be taking a field trip to the Graymont Quarry in Plattsburgh on Thursday, May 29th.

6. The 3rd grade will be presenting their “Famous People” on Thursday evening at 6:00pm in the AFES cafeteria.

7. Grades K-3 will be going to see a Ballet presentation at the MHS on Friday, May 30th at 9:00am.

Good Tuesday Morning, May 27, 2008

Hello Everyone,

Today is Tuesday Morning, May 27, 2008.  It is a day #4.

A few notes…

Good Thursday Morning, May 22, 2008

Hello Everyone!

Today is Thursday, May 22, 2008. It is a day #2.

1. Today begins the 6th grade two days of events that recognize and honor our veterans. The sixth grade teachers have put together another great program of visiting veterans, visiting current Army Reserve soldiers with an Army vehicle, an obstical course to be run, and a visit to the cemetery to honor veterans that have passed. Thank you to the sixth grade teachers for their efforts to honor our veterans and teach respect for them.

2. The spring benchmarking DIBELS assessments will continue today for the students K-3.

3. Next week, Tuesday-Thursday, we will be administering the Grades 1-3 Terra Nova Assessments. These are assessments that test students’ abilities and skills in the areas of Reading/ELA and Math. These important assessments help us to assess the progress students have made this year and they help us to determine the AIS needs for next year. Please encourage your student(s) to do their best, get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast on the days of these assessments.

4. Tuesday , May 20th was the annual District Budget Vote and the Art & Cultural Extravaganza, as well as the vote for a new Board of Education member. The Arts and Cultural Fair was a huge success and thank you for your support of the school budget. There were four candidates for the board seat and I thank all of them for their interest in school board and our local educational system. Congratulations to all for their efforts and a special congratulations to Susan Richards for her success in winning the position on the Board!

5. A few upcoming events next week:

A. Thursday, May 29 - the 5th grade will visit the Graymont Quarry of in Plattsburgh. Thank you to AVCS Board Member, Scott Bombard, for setting this up and making the day memorable for our 5th grade class every year.

B. Thursday, May 29, the 3rd grade class will be holding their “Famous People” presentations 6:00-7:00pm. Come and watch as these great students present on different famous people throughout history.

C. Friday, May 30, the Grades K-3 will go to the MHS to see a Ballet specifically for younger children at 9:00am.

D. The National Spelling Bee will take place next week in Washington, D.C. It will be televised on ESPN. Our local regional winner, Nelson Moore, a 6th grader from Saranac Central will be competing. We wish Nelson Good Luck!

Good Monday Morning, May 19, 2008

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is had great weekend. 

Today is Monday, May 19, 2008.  It is a day #4.

A few notes and upcoming events:

1. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20th is the Budget Vote and Arts and Cultural Extravaganza.  Be sure to exercise your right to vote.  Not only are we voting on the budget but there is one seat open on the Board of Education with 4 candidates running for that seat.  I hope to see you there!

2. The Book Club will be meeting this afternoon, 2:15-3:00pm.  The book club is now advised by Mrs. Manning.

3. This Thursday and Friday the 6th grade will be holding their Annual Memorial Day Commemorative Exercises.  These are events and presentations that Mr. Remillard and Mr. Carey arrange for the 6th grade students each year which includes a visit by the local Army Reserve with an Army vehicle, a presentation and Q & A session by area veterans, marching, a chance to run through an obstacle course, and much more.  The 6th grade students enjoy this event every year.

4. The AFFD Auxiliary will be holding a Student Dance this Friday!

5. The Annual Elementary Combined Spring Concert Thursday evening was a huge success.  The chorus students and band students from both Keeseville Elementary and AFES put on a great performance.  The grand finale with all chorus students from both Keeseville Elementary and AFES performing a song together was absolutely outstanding!  Congratulations to Ms. Stanyon (formerly Mrs. Carter), Mrs. Boulerice and Mrs. Biggar.  And a special thank you and congratulations to all the students that performed.  It was the best concert yet!

Good Thursday Morning, May 15, 2008

Hello Everyone!

I’m back on “The Blog”!

Today is Thursday, May 15, 2008. It is a day #2.

1. We had another great PTO meeting last night. I want to thank all the Parents and teachers that were in attendance.

2. I will be out of the office today at a conference. Mr. Remillard will be in office for me today.

3. Tonight is the Combined KES and AFES Concert. It will be held at the MHS auditorium and starts at 7:00pm.

4. Tuesday , May 20th is the District Budget Vote, as well as the Art & Cultural Extravaganza. This is all taking place at the MHS. Exercise your right to vote and enjoy the extravaganza all in one trip!

Good Morning,

I hope everyone is had great weekend. 

Today is Monday, May 7, 2008.  It is a day #2.

A few notes and upcoming events:
1. The NYS 4thGrade Science Test will continue today, Wednesday, May 7th. 

2. Today is National Nurse’s Day!

3. The Book Club will be advised by Mrs. Manning for the remainder of this school year.  Thank you to Mrs. Manning!  It will be meeting every Monday, after school, 2:15-3:00pm.

4. Mr. Munson will be presenting the Middle School Fall Sports Programs to our 6th grade students (who will be 7th graders next year). The presentation will be Thursday, May 8th.

5. Also on Thursday there will be a Character Education Assembly held by our Character Education Team at 1:00pm in the gym.

6. The AFFD Auxiliary will be holding a Student Dance this Friday!

7. Monday, May 12th is an Early Release Day.  AFES will be releasing students at 12:15pm.

8. Thursday, May 15th is the Annual Elementary Combined Spring Concert at the MHS at 7:00pm.  The chorus students and band students from both Keeseville Elementary and AFES will be joining together to perform for you. 

9. Do not forget to exercise your right to vote at the School Budget Vote on Tuesday, May 20th.

10. There will be an Arts and Cultural Extravaganza on Tuesday, May 20 during the evening of the budget vote.  This is always great time!  Come and see your student’s art work displayed as well as the many other displays and demonstrations.

Please excuse the appearance of this post.  I have tried for three days now to rectify the spacing problem, to no avail.  So I decided to post regardless.  I will continue to work on it.

It is Thursday, May 1, 2008 and it is a Day #2.

Wednesday-Friday: Trooper Butzer Personal Safety Presentations

Friday: 3rd Quarter Assembly and Student Recognition Awards

Next Week:

NYS 4th Grade Science Tests on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 6 & 7.

May 5-9 is National Teacher’s Week and Tuesday, May 6th is Teacher Appreciation Day.

Character Education Assembly will take place on Thursday May 8th.

Combined Elementary Spring concert is on Thursday, May 8th, at 7:00pm at the MHS Auditorium. This is an event where the Choruses and the Bands from Au Sable Forks Elementary School and Keeseville Elementary School join together to perform. Be sure to mark your calendar and come and enjoy the performances!
