1. The 6th grade graduation will be held this evening at 6:30pm in the AFES Gym.<span>&#160;</span> All are welcome. <span>&#160;</span>This always proves to be a wonderful celebration of the 6<sup>th</sup> grade students’ time at AFES and the sending off into their future at the MHS.<span>&#160;</span> <span>&#160;</span>As always, the 6<sup>th</sup> grade teachers have a wonderful evening planned and, thanks to Tammy Freebern, there will be a slide show presentation of the students’ last year at AFES.<br /></font></span></i></b> <b><i><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'"><font size="3">2. Tomorrow, Wednesday June 25<sup>th</sup>, we will hold the year-end awards ceremony.<span>&#160;</span> <span>&#160;</span>This will take place at 9:00am in the AFES Gym.<span>&#160;</span> All are welcome.<span>&#160;</span><br /></font></span></i></b> <b><i><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'"><font size="3">3. Good Wednesday Morning,&#160;June 18, 2008.&#160; It is a day 5.<br />
<br />
Here are a few notes:<br />
<br /></font><font size="3"><u>Today, Wednesday, June 18:<br /></u><br />
1.&#160;Mrs. Chamberlain's class will be taking a walking field trip to the Grand Union. They will be reviewing such skills as money, buying, shopping, etc.<br />
<br />
<br />
2. The 6th grade class will be taking their annual, year-end field trip to the Great Escape.&#160; This is a "Senior Trip" for the AFES "Senior" class, our 6th graders.&#160; They work hard throughout the year to earn the money for this trip.<br />
<br /></font></span></i></b> <b><i><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'"><font size="3">3. The Book Club had to be cancelled yesterday because the HS started Regents and that means that there are no regular classes as of yesterday. <span>&#160;</span>So that means that there is no bussing from the Middle High School, which is the bussing that is used to take students home after clubs. We will hopefully reschedule the Book Club meeting/field trip some time during the school day.<span>&#160;</span> If we are able to reschedule, we will send home a notice regarding this.<br />
<br /></font></span></i></b><b><i><span style="font-family: 'Georgia','serif'"><font size="3">4. The Student Council has to be cancelled yesterday also, due to the same reason as the Book Club cancellation – no bussing. <span>&#160;</span>We will hopefully reschedule the Student Council meeting some time during the school day. If we are able to reschedule, we will send home a notice regarding this.<br />

1. The AFES Field Day!&#160; This day-long, all school event is designed, organized, set up and run by our very own - Mr. Hoey!&#160; Thank you Mr. Hoey for your dedication and sacrifice for our students!<br />

1. The 3rd grade will be taking a walking field trip today to the Hollywood Theater to watch the movie "Indian in the Cupboard".<br />

2. The 1st grade will be taking a walking field trip today to the Au Sable Forks Park.<br />
<br />
3. This afternoon, 2:15-3:00pm,&#160;will be the final Student Council meeting for this year.<br />

<p><i>6. Last Thursday evening the <b>3<sup>rd</sup> grade class of Mrs. Garrand</b> held their <b>“Famous People”</b> presentations. It was a huge success and the students did an outstanding job of presenting their famous person. Congratulations to Mrs. Garrand’s class.</i></p>
<p><i>7. <b>Grades K-3 watched</b> a <b>Ballet</b> last Friday at the MHS and it was a wonderful experience. The students truly enjoyed the ballet.</i></p>

1. Grades 1-3 will be taking the <strong>Terra Nova Tests</strong>&#160;this week through Thursday.&#160; These are comprehensive tests to measure students' progress in reading and in math.<br />

2. The <strong>AVCS Middle School Band and Chorus</strong> will perform for us today at 1:00pm in the AFES gym.<span>&#160;</span> This will be an exciting event for our students, as well as the middle school students who are performing.<span>&#160;</span> It will also give our elementary chorus and band students some excitement and vision for what they can expect when they get to the middle school.<br />

   <description><p><i><font size="3">Hello Everyone!</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">Today is Thursday, May 22, 2008. It is a day #2.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">1. Today begins the <strong>6<sup>th</sup> grade</strong> two days of events that <strong>recognize and honor our veterans.</strong> The sixth grade teachers have put together another great program of visiting veterans, visiting current Army Reserve soldiers with an Army vehicle, an obstical course to be run, and a visit to the cemetery to honor veterans that have passed. Thank you to the sixth grade teachers for their efforts to honor our veterans and teach respect for them.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">2. The spring benchmarking <strong>DIBELS assessments</strong> will continue today for the students K-3.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">3. Next week, Tuesday-Thursday, we will be administering the <b>Grades 1-3 Terra Nova Assessments</b>. These are assessments that test students’ abilities and skills in the areas of <b>Reading/ELA and Math</b>. These important assessments help us to assess the progress students have made this year and they help us to determine the AIS needs for next year. Please encourage your student(s) to do their best, get plenty of rest and eat a good breakfast on the days of these assessments.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">4. Tuesday , May 20<sup>th</sup> was the annual <b>District Budget Vote and</b> the <b>Art &amp; Cultural Extravaganza,</b> as well as the vote for a <b>new Board of Education member. The Arts and Cultural Fair was a huge success and thank you for your support of the school budget.</b> There were four candidates for the board seat and I thank all of them for their interest in school board and our local educational system. <b>Congratulations</b> to all for their efforts and a special congratulations to <b>Susan Richards for her success in winning the position on the Board!</b></font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">5. <b>A few upcoming events next week:</b></font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">A. Thursday, May 29 - the <b>5<sup>th</sup> grade</b> will visit the <b>Graymont Quarry</b> of in Plattsburgh. Thank you to AVCS Board Member, <b>Scott Bombard</b>, for setting this up and making the day memorable for our 5<sup>th</sup> grade class every year.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">B. Thursday, May 29, the <b>3<sup>rd</sup> grade class</b> will be holding their <b>“Famous People”</b> presentations 6:00-7:00pm. Come and watch as these great students present on different famous people throughout history.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">C. Friday, May 30, the <b>Grades K-3</b> will go to the MHS to see a <b>Ballet</b> specifically for younger children at 9:00am.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">D. The <b>National Spelling Bee</b> will take place next week in Washington, D.C. It will be televised on ESPN. Our local regional winner, <b>Nelson Moore,</b> a 6<sup>th</sup> grader from Saranac Central will be competing. We wish Nelson Good Luck!</font></i></p>

Today is Monday, May 19, 2008.&#160; It is a day #4.<br />
<br />
A few notes and upcoming events:<br />
<br />
1. Tomorrow, Tuesday, May 20<sup>th</sup> is the Budget Vote and Arts and Cultural Extravaganza.&#160; Be sure to exercise your right to vote.&#160; Not only are we voting on the budget but there is one seat open on the Board of Education with&#160;4 candidates running for that seat.&#160; I hope to see you there!<br />
<br />
2. The <b>Book Club</b> will be meeting this afternoon, 2:15-3:00pm.&#160; The book club is now advised by <b>Mrs. Manning.</b><br />
<br />
3. This Thursday and Friday the <b>6<sup>th</sup> grade</b> will be holding their <b>Annual Memorial Day Commemorative Exercises.</b>&#160; These are events and presentations that Mr. Remillard and Mr. Carey arrange for the 6<sup>th</sup> grade students each year which includes a visit by the local Army Reserve with an Army vehicle, a presentation and Q &amp; A session by area veterans, marching, a chance to run through an obstacle course, and much more.&#160; The 6<sup>th</sup> grade students enjoy this event every year.<br />
<br />
4. The <b>AFFD Auxiliary</b> will be holding a <b>Student Dance</b> this Friday!<br />
<br />
5. <b>The</b> <b>Annual Elementary Combined Spring Concert</b> Thursday evening was a <b>huge success.</b> &#160;The chorus students and band students from both Keeseville Elementary and AFES put on a great performance.&#160; The grand finale with all chorus students from both Keeseville Elementary and AFES performing a song together was absolutely outstanding!&#160; Congratulations to Ms. Stanyon (formerly Mrs. Carter), Mrs. Boulerice and Mrs. Biggar.&#160; And a special thank you and congratulations to all the students that performed.&#160; It was the best concert yet!&#160;<br />

<p><i><font size="3">Today is Thursday, May 15, 2008. It is a day #2.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">1. We had another <b>great PTO meeting</b> last night. I want to thank all the Parents and teachers that were in attendance.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">2. I will be out of the office today at a conference. <b>Mr. Remillard</b> will be in office for me today.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">3. Tonight is the <b>Combined KES and AFES Concert</b>. It will be held at the MHS auditorium and starts at 7:00pm.</font></i></p>
<p><i><font size="3">4. Tuesday , May 20<sup>th</sup> is the <b>District Budget Vote,</b> as well as the Art &amp; Cultural Extravaganza. This is all taking place at the MHS. Exercise your right to vote and enjoy the extravaganza all in one trip!</font></i></p>
